We aim to ensure that workers are treated fairly and are aware of their rights at work

There is very little legal aid for employment matters. Funding for our employment casework comes largely from a contract with Southwark council

Referrals for help with problems at work can be made from organisations whose clients live, work, or study in Southwark.

Discrimination

We hold Legal Aid contracts in Lewisham and Southwark to provide discrimination casework. We aim to embed identifying and dealing with issues of discrimination across all our areas of work.

Examples of cases we may take on

  • Unfair Dismissal including: incapacity, misconduct, redundancy and assertion of a relevant Statutory Right.
  • Age, Race, Religion, Sex, Sexual Orientation, Gender Reassignment, Pregnancy, Maternity and Disability Discrimination Cases.

  • Equal Pay.
  • Minimum Wage.
  • Working Time Regulations.
  • Parental and Exceptional Leave.

Cases we cannot take on

  • Human Rights Act.

  • Goods and Services cases.
  • Cases we would not normally take on:
  • Straightforward unlawful deduction/breach of contract/holiday pay cases.
  • Cases where the applicant already has obtained representation through membership of a Trade Union.
