Southwark Law Centre wins refugee status for child

An unaccompanied child from Kosovo, cared for by foster parents in Lewisham, has now been granted refugee status due to the work of the Southwark Law Centre. His Roma Gypsy father was murdered after working for Serbs during the conflict in Kosovo. As a consequence the child’s life was in danger.

When asked about the outcome of the case, his mother stated:

“We are delighted with the result and I am certain that if we had not changed solictors my son would be facing the terrifying prospect of being forced to return to Kosovo where he would be in genuine fear for his life.”

Southwark Law Centre is funded by London Councils and also by Lewisham Council to provide specialist Immigration casework in the Borough of Lewisham. With this funding they employ a full time specialist solicitor. The project is delivered in partnership with Lewisham Citizens Advice Bureaux.

London Councils grants supports Southwark Law Centre.  The project provides specialist casework and representation in housing, immigration and asylum, welfare rights and asylum support to asylum seekers and migrants in the boroughs of Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.
